Why I Built PetNyam: Two Dogs, Three Cats and Food Questions

Hello, I’m Jung Do-young (정도영), the person behind PetNyam. I live with two dogs—Hong-i, a Boston Terrier, and Seol-i, a Pomeranian—and three cats, Leon, Jjokkomi and Mini.

PetNyam began with questions about the animals in my life. Repeated food searches were inconvenient, and it was even harder to find well-supported guidance for animals other than dogs and cats.

Could Hong-i and Seol-i eat apples?

I wondered whether apples were suitable for Hong-i and Seol-i. A saying I had heard about apples at night made me wonder about dogs, so I searched. That personal question does not establish that the saying applies to dogs.

A yes-or-no answer alone did not feel sufficient. I wanted to understand preparation, exclusions and the reasons behind the guidance. PetNyam aims to connect a conclusion with those details and the material used to support it.

A family hamster exposed gaps in the information

My sister-in-law keeps a hamster. Even after searching individual foods, it was difficult to find the answers I wanted or understand their evidence. I wanted guidance grounded in material I could check, rather than an AI answer standing on its own.

Dog guidance cannot simply be transferred to a hamster. PetNyam therefore separates dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters and parrots, and identifies combinations for which the evidence remains limited.

Three cats are part of our family too

Leon, Jjokkomi and Mini also live with me. Leon and Mini appear together below. Their breeds have not been confirmed, so I do not assign a breed label.

A place to explore, one question at a time

I hope visitors find their food answer and also enjoy exploring other animal stories and practical tools. That might mean comparing a pet’s age, checking another food or learning about a different animal.

I love animals too. The wish to care for them brings questions and concerns that many of us can relate to. I want to build PetNyam gradually into a useful place for more animals and the people who care for them.

Keeping experience separate from evidence

The family introduction and reasons for searching are supplied firsthand by the operator. The photographs do not establish food consumption or health status. I do not provide veterinary diagnosis or individualized diets.

Our editorial process follows below. Send questions or corrections to jungdo63@gmail.com.

How a food page is prepared

  1. Define the question. Identify the species, ingredient, edible part and preparation. Plain banana flesh and a sweetened banana product are different questions.
  2. Read the source. Prefer veterinary schools, specialist veterinary references, animal-welfare organizations and veterinarian-authored guidance. A link to an institution does not approve every food.
  3. Label the evidence scope. Distinguish material naming the food and species, dietary-category reasoning and unresolved combinations. A named food in guidance is not necessarily a feeding trial or a safety guarantee.
  4. Give a decision and a next step. Show the conclusion first, then the rationale, preparation, exclusions, accidental-ingestion checks and sources.
  5. Keep both languages consistent. Korean and English use the same decision record. Translation is not an independent medical review.

Examples of evidence changing the answer

Cat and mango: veterinarian-authored feline fruit guidance explicitly names mango, so we replaced the unresolved verdict with conditional guidance. That does not approve mango desserts or replacing a complete diet. Hamster and milk: basic husbandry guidance supports providing water, but does not establish a safe or toxic milk dose. Adult drinking and neonatal feeding are separate questions.

Personal notes, examples and tools

Only observations supplied by the operator are presented as his experience. Sample purchases and logs are illustrative, not invented receipts. Our treat cost calculator (Korean) compares weight-based costs, spending and bag counts. It does not assess nutritional suitability. Calculator inputs are neither stored nor transmitted.

Corrections and dates

Please send the page URL, the disputed wording, relevant species or product details and an original source. A claim may remain unresolved while it is checked. Confirmed corrections are applied to the verdict, both languages and the description. Content dates change when that page’s content changes; a site-wide build is not a new medical review.

Tools and funding

AI tools assist research, drafting, translation and implementation. Food pages provide general information and are not represented as individually reviewed by a veterinarian. Advertising and product sales do not determine food verdicts. Coupang and Amazon product recommendations are currently paused for all visitors. See the privacy policy (Korean) for site-wide advertising and privacy information.
